The Most Important in Brief
ROLDA is a beacon of hope for homeless, abused and neglected animals and pets with financially troubled, vulnerable owners. We currently care for hundreds of dogs in our two shelters and some cats living in our shelter which serves exclusively disabled and senior cats’ population. Our three shelters are located in the south east of the country, one of the poorest areas of Romania. Besides rescuing and rehoming, ROLDA also helps pets with financially disturbed and vulnerable owners. In addition, we run education campaigns and extend our very limited resources to help rescuers from other cities in Romania. Recently, ROLDA decided to expand its support globally to animals and their people located in areas affected by natural of humane made disasters e.g. the war in Ukraine.

Measures
Our work helps animals in distress and people who care about them, PERMANENTLY and DIRECTLY. The pillars on which ROLDA focuses its work have 2 components: 1. Abused, neglected and homeless animals 2. Pets owned by vulnerable people or financially distressed people Globally • Help animals in areas affected by natural or human made disasters Purpose: It provides emergency relief and protection to animals impacted by war, natural disasters or crisis, preventing suffering and abandonment. Help Ukraine Animals • Help abused and neglected animals outside Romanian borders Physically rescue dogs from where they are abused (e.g. puppy mills in Turkey and Bulgaria) and transport them to safety at ROLDA shelters, from where they are adopted to forever homes (mostly in Europe). Romania • Support veterinary care, shelter, and rehabilitation for stray, injured and neglected animals rescued by our partner organisation Dogs are rescued from public shelters, streets or cruelty cases. They receive veterinary treatment, are microchipped, sterilised, socialised and housed in ROLDA’s private shelters until adoption. Senior and disabled cats are rescued, given veterinary care, and housed in a purpose-built cat shelter. They stay for life or until a suitable home is found. • Funding free spay and neuter programs to reduce the overpopulation of stray animals in low-income areas, preventing future neglect and suffering Targeted communities are from remote areas, where disadvantaged people (low income, no veterinary access, lack of education) make pets breed uncontrolled and high number of unwanted kittens and puppies are born to suffer. • Sharing successful community aid models (e.g. financial help for vulnerable pet owners) to encourage similar support programs locally Assistance is provided to senior pet owners in financial hardship, often living alone or with limited access to veterinary services. Selection is based on income, location and pet health needs. -
