Bringing hope and healing children with cancer or congenital abnormalities in Peru
Project Duration November 13, 2025 - February 27, 2026

Bringing hope and healing children with cancer or congenital abnormalities in Peru

  1. Goal
Supporting children with serious illnesses isn’t just about saving lives — it’s about protecting the future. These life-threatening conditions endanger not only families, but also the long-term well-being and sustainability of entire communities. BASAID’s partnership with Albergue Inspira is an investment in life, in resilience, and in the belief that every child deserves the chance to grow up healthy, safe, and loved. With your help, we can raise 22,000 USD or 18,000 CHF so that no child has to stop treatment because of poverty. (22 USD / 18 CHF is the cost per day per child and companion to be able to attend medical treatment. Support includes meals, shelter, services and transportation) Visit the project here: https://basaid.org/event/peru OR https://basaid.org/donate-fundraising
  2. Challenge
Every year, children from Peru’s most remote regions travel to Lima for life-saving medical treatments. They come so far, and many arrive with few resources aside from hope and a promise of cure. And yet a lack of essentials we take for granted - like transportation, food and shelter - can sometimes be the reason that a child with a serious condition must stop their medical care. That is where Albergue Inspira steps in. Founded in Lima in 2008 by Dr. Ricardo Pun Chong, Inspira provides temporary shelter, healthy meals, transportation to hospitals, and emotional support for children and their mothers. It is a place of compassion and dignity, where families can focus on healing rather than survival.
  3. Need for Action
Albergue Inspira operates thanks to the valuable support of compassionate companies and individuals who contribute voluntarily. However, these resources are limited, and it is often difficult to cover the monthly commitments. BASAID wants to do its part to help, and ensure that these children and their mothers receive shelter, healthy food, transportation, and emotional support during treatment.
  4. Measures
The need continues to grow. Too many families still arrive in Lima without support, and too many beds remain empty for lack of funds. This year, BASAID aims to raise USD 22,000 / CHF 18,000 to ensure that no child in need is turned away. Every 18 CHF provides a child with a full day of care — a warm meal, safe lodging, and the strength to keep fighting. Success / KPIs will be measures in terms of how many new kids can join Inspira and get support to attend their treatment. Our support can mean one more bed filled, one more family comforted, one more child given a real chance to heal and live.

  6. Impact
No child with cancer will have to abandon his or her treatment. If children get lodging, conscious feeding and transportation to receive their medical treatments in Lima, more lives will be saved! These life-threatening conditions will change as this project supports not only families, but also the long-term well-being and sustainability of entire communities.
  7. Special Quality of the Project; Suitability of the Organization
