Association

The Most Important in Brief

BASAID is a charitable organisation that supports small projects around the world through direct development aid. The name BASAID, short for Basic Aid, describes BASAID’s main purpose, the support of small projects that address the basic needs of local communities and enables them to help themselves. All engagement of BASAID members is voluntary which means that there are no salary and administration expenses. When BASAID members visit projects, they pay for all travel and accommodation costs themselves. BASAID incurs almost no administrative costs, meaning that approximately 95% of every Swiss Franc donated can be used on its development aid projects. 3. Goals

The purpose of the association is to support sustainable development projects together with local partners or, if applicable together with Swiss or foreign partners (institutions / organizations / individuals) for planning and implementation. The association also capitalizes on the administrative, scientific and technical expertise available through its members. Projects are aimed, in particular, at promoting improvements in the areas of nutrition, health, agriculture, water supply, housing and education, as well as at providing support for "self-help". The association is not profit-oriented. Capital creation is only permitted insofar as necessary for securing the association's activities in the long term.

The proceeds from the bazaar provide a moderate financial contribution but more importantly, the bazaar provides a platform for displaying craft products from the countries where BASAID runs projects. BASAID also receives interest income from the Lehman Fund which flows directly into supporting projects. A further source of funding comes from employee donations at retirement, special anniversaries and from legacies.
